Shop my vast selection of Channel Island photographs and buy art prints on canvas, metal, acrylic, fine art paper and more. The Channel Islands are a group of beautiful islands off the coast of southern California where you can see stunning sunsets, wildlife, and marine life.
Channel Islands National Park is located off of the coast of Ventura and Santa Barbara, in southern California. The national park is made up of 5 out of the 8 channel islands found off the coast of California. There is Santa Barbara Island, Anacapa Island, Santa Cruz Island, Santa Rosa Island, and San Miguel Island. Santa Cruz Island is the largest island in the national park, while Anacapa island is the smallest. The other channel islands outside of the national park protection are Santa Catalina, San Clemente, and San Nicolas. People can come visit the islands via boats across the channel or by air. Due to the separation from California for thousands of years, the island has developed many endemic species of plants and animals that are found nowhere else in the world except for on these ecologically rich islands. The National Park was declared on March 5, 1980.
I am captivated by the raw beauty of these islands. They are a paradise where the natural wonder of the environment is still able to be explored. I've visited two out of the five Channel Islands within the national park, Anacapa, and Santa Cruz Islands along with Santa Catalina and San Clemente. The sight of the islands off of the coast of Ventura was something I looked forward to seeing every day when I went to college at Brooks Institute. Either hiking along the cliffs or snorkeling the coastline in the protected waters, I absolutely love exploring around the Channel Islands. Surprisingly many people in Los Angeles are unaware that such an incredible national park lies so close to their backyard. Plan your next adventure!
